Call before you dig

Whether you are planning to do it yourself or hire a contractor, call 811 before each job. Call before beginning any excavation to avoid damage to underground facilities, service interruptions, and bodily injury.

It’s the Law

According to RCW 19.122, anyone digging deeper than 12 inches must call for locates two business days before they dig. This holds true for private property, city, county, state or federal lands.

Call at least two business days before you plan to dig and be prepared to:

  • Pinpoint the location of your dig site
  • Describe the type of work to be done
  • Identify the start date and time

Simply dial 811 prior to digging and you can keep bad things from happening, like:

  • Electrocution or injury
  • Explosion or fire
  • Power outages
  • Disruption of communications network
  • Cost to repair damages
